Leadership is NOT an Option

From before the time you were born you were destined to lead, to influence other people and to make a difference in those around you. The question is what kind of influence will you decide to have?

If a leader is measured by the magnitude of his impact then Hitler, Stalin, and Mohammad would join Jesus Christ at the top of the leader board. The authority to which you submit determines the type of leader you become.

Every person living today exists in three basic roles: individual, professional and social. These roles vary greatly in the degree of possible influence and the depth of relationships, but leadership is still required not optional.

Individual All physiological, psychological and spiritual activity begins within the “inner man.” As an individual one makes the most critical selection: Whose am I? Under whose authority will I influence others? How will I define significance? For the purpose of this writing we shall call it “worldview.” The influence generated by those that elect a worldview based on materialism, self-indulgence and personal favoritism differs greatly from those who see the world through eyes of love, caring and selflessness. Before anyone intentionally influences another, they should examine their worldview.

Social Existence in the social realm includes about spousal and parental relationships, friendships, and community involvement. This is a less structured, more variant domain; therefore, the individual commands more directly from the selected worldview. But with freedom comes responsibility. My heart is heavy with the knowledge that the social fabric of nations and people groups are being torn apart by individuals whose worldview is corrupted by poor selection. The legacy of these individuals is hatred, broken homes, frightened communities and eternal damnation.

Professional As a professional you live in a structured world of job descriptions, budgets, and management hierarchy. Your worldview is lived out under the authority of others. The ever-present threat of losing your job and income could cause distortion of your worldview and mute your intended influence. As a business owner or senior executive, you have the potential to establish a company culture paralleling your worldview thus spreading your influence in the professional realm.

Leadership is not an option, but the legacy of your leadership is open to choice.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. Edmund Burke

And He said to him, “‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ “the second is like it, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” Jesus Christ

Some will know what you say, but everyone will see what you do. Living a life under the authority of Jesus Christ is not easy, but leaving a legacy of love, joy and peace for future generations is worth the effort.

Lead like Jesus
